Using Insurance to Cover Nutrition Therapy Sessions
Most health insurance plans include coverage for nutrition counseling. To determine the specifics of your health insurance coverage for dietary counseling, take the following steps:
Contact your insurance provider to inquire about your coverage, including doctor referral requirements, the number of sessions allowed per year, and qualifying health conditions (some plans may only reimburse nutritional counseling aimed at managing chronic conditions like diabetes, chronic kidney disease, or heart disease.)
If necessary, obtain a doctor's referral and submit it to your insurance provider.
Review your policy benefits and coverage details to understand what is offered.
